Only those live, who lives for others ~ Swami Vivekananda

Shivali Mahila Samaj Seva Sansthan is a registered non-governmental organization (NGO) working in rural and tribal regions of Uttar Pradesh, including the backward areas of Sonbhadra. Established under the Indian Societies Registration Act, 1860, the organization is committed to driving sustainable development and empowering marginalized communities through comprehensive, community-focused programs.

Guided by the principle of “SHEEL”, our work addresses the multiple dimensions of rural development, ensuring that interventions are sustainable, inclusive, and impact-driven.

SHEEL – Our Core Focus Areas:

S – Sanitation:

We believe sanitation is the foundation of health, dignity, and well-being. Our programs go beyond constructing toilets to include hygiene awareness campaigns, community-led sanitation drives, and menstrual health education. By engaging local leaders, women’s groups, and schools, we cultivate long-term behavioral change, reduce open defecation, and ensure equitable access to clean sanitation facilities for women, children, and persons with disabilities.

H – Health:

Access to quality healthcare is critical for resilient communities. Our initiatives combine preventive health programs, awareness workshops, and medical camps to address both physical and mental health needs. We focus on maternal and child health, nutrition, immunization, and disease prevention, while promoting community health volunteers who continue the efforts at the grassroots level, ensuring sustainability and community ownership.

E – Environment:

Environmental sustainability is integral to lasting development. We implement tree plantation drives, water conservation projects, waste management initiatives, and awareness programs on sustainable agricultural practices. By linking environmental health with community livelihoods and education, we help villages adapt to climate challenges, conserve natural resources, and foster eco-conscious practices across generations.

E – Education:

Education is the cornerstone of empowerment. Our approach goes beyond literacy to include skill-building, life skills education, digital literacy, and awareness about rights and social responsibilities. Special focus is placed on girls’ education and adult education programs to reduce drop-out rates, enhance employability, and create a culture where learning becomes a vehicle for social and economic mobility.

L – Livelihood:

Sustainable livelihoods are key to breaking the cycle of poverty. We provide vocational training, entrepreneurship guidance, and financial literacy programs tailored to local contexts. By equipping women and youth with practical skills and access to income-generating opportunities, we strengthen household resilience, promote economic independence, and foster inclusive growth in rural communities.

Through this holistic approach, Shivali Mahila Samaj Seva Sansthan works to empower communities, improve quality of life, and create sustainable change in some of the most underserved regions of Uttar Pradesh.
